Week 22 (March 6th, 2005 )

With only a handful of games left the rush has started in the Table Tennis league to get into the promotion places and jump out of the basement positions. Den have almost certainly been handed the premier division title after Allied Worldwide could only win by 6 games to 4 against second bottom Broomwade A. It looks as if Broomwade A will be playing division one table tennis next season along with Chalfont C. Both teams are on 23 points 6 behind Chalfont B who have two games in hand. The C team were up against Apollo B in a very close fought match with 7 out of the 10 matches going to 5 sets. Apollo came out on top with a great maximum from Janet brown whose win over Ben Wiseman was the crucial match of the night to give Apollo the 6-4 win. Flackwell A continued to rise from the Ashes of their season as they enjoyed a 7-3 win over Chalfont B. Den completed a bad week for Chalfont sides as they vanquished the A team 10-0.

At the top of Division One Speenm look to have sewn up the title as they brushed aside their nearest rivals Apollo c 7-3. Keith Taylor was once agin the star for Speen as he took three games ably supported by two each from Paul trench and Phil Clark. Three points for St Andrews looks to be too little too late as they are still eight points behind Apollo D with both teams having 3 games left. Hazlemere B’s defeat against Gt Kingshill B means they are down as they can only equal Apollo D and will not have a superior game difference. Wesley B will have to produce a slip of drastic proportions if they are to lose their top spot in division two. They faced off against Flackwell b in third and the likely occupants of second at the end of the season. Wesley started well and were never really in trouble as they won 7-3. Flackwell now lie 5 points behind Apollo F so will need a big win on their game in hand to even up the race for second. Flackwell C have lifted themselves off the bottom with a much needed 6-4 win over now bottom side Hazlemere C. David Francis Tariq Bhatti and Andy Roberts all weighed in with two games each. It’s anyone’s guess who will get relegated as there are still only five points separating bottom and 5th place. Harlequins A Stargoat B Broomwade B Flackwell C and Hazlemere are all still in danger of the drop, with the likely candidates being two from Hazlemere Flackwell and Broomwade.

With three games to play Hazlemere D have virtually wrapped up first position. At the moment they stand eighteen points ahead of St Andrews B. But the church team could find themselves caught up in the battle for that coveted second place. Their C team are just 3 points behind but have played a game more. Great Kingshill have one game in hand and will be four points behind if they can take the 6 points. Lurking behind Kingshill are Harlequins B who held second for most of the season and Union Baptist A. Both teams are 13 points behind St Andrews B. At the bottom Union Baptist B are relegated, above them Apollo G will be looking to pick up 6 points from two games to draw level with Flackwell D.

Captain Susana Hansell led her team to a whitewash over St Andrews D. Hansell has seen her form improve dramatically this season and the question now is when, not if she will join her family in the premier division for Den. The D team now stand just one point below leaders Telecom A although the A’s have two games in hand. At the bottom of the division Telecom B produced a good 6-4 win over Union Baptis C but could not take themselves off the bottom and past Hazlemere E.
