Week 2 (October 7th, 2005 )
Despite suffering an 8-2 defeat at the hands of Downley, Paul Hopgood and Mary Heffernan both enjoyed credible wins over Chris Haines who seemed to be showing signs of stress before moving house at the weekend. Star for Downley was Duane Brooks who produced one of his best performances to win all three of his games. A further maximum for Danny Baxter gave Downley the 6 points. At North Dean Apollo C “young guns†Trevor Gaffney and Darren Palmer were on top form and their left handed doubles partnership was too strong for their opposition from Apollo A. The promoted C team have made a great start to the new season, and Gaffney’s match with Tim Wooster was the highlight of the match, 5 sets players at 150 mph.
In Division 1 it was another Apollo derby with the D team playing at “Home†against the E team. The E’s led 5-1 after the doubles and looked the winners. Apollo D thought otherwise and won the next four games to gain a well deserved draw.
In division 2 it was the battle of the newly promoted teams as St Andrews B faced division three winners Hazlemere D. Despite Dave Carter beating St Andrews Kevin Moses in the first game St Andrews streaked into a 5-1 lead. Hazles pegged it back to 5-3 with a superb performance by John Dawson, who seems to get better week by week, against Steve Gaukroger. But a win apiece for Moses and Jeremy Bagley took the win for the church side
In divisions three and four the two Union Baptist sides continued there good starts to the season. Tony Walters kept his 100% record up as the A side enjoyed another 8-2 win. The B side went past Hazlemere E with a 10-0 win where only one game went to five.
